Well we've been sitting in the Hong Kong airport since about 6am this morning which hasn't been that great of an experience. We have been trying to get out of HK cheaply and into Vietnam but it doesn't seem to be coming together for us so tonight we are hoping to catch a flight to Bangkok and do the rest of our trip backwards a bit (instead of traveling down Vietnam, across Cambodia to Bangkok we'll fly to Bangkok go across Cambodia and up Vietnam). Anyway the rest of HK was beautiful, I really like it here and could see myself coming back even maybe to live/work for a little bit. They have great stores and restaurants and bars and the ppl are so nice and civil and clean. The metro is really impressive, its so easy and clean and orderly, they have lanes for ppl to line up to get in and out of the trains during rush hour. Its funny though bc ppl here just wear whatever they want and it doesn't matter if it matches or not or if its like 3 sizes too big and the girls loooove sparkly things. And they love Disney stuff.
So over the last 2 days we went to Ocean Park which was a lot of fun. It was sooooo hot that day though. The amusement park itself was ok there were enough rides to keep us occupied but it was mainly the idea that the whole park is built on 2 sides of a mountain. Theres the bottom section of the park and then you have to take a cable car across the mountain to go to the other side. The view was absolutely breath taking, none of us expected it. Hong Kong doesn't really look like what i thought it was going to look like -- but its in a better way. We missed the booze cruise but went out for a lovely Indian dinner in Soho again and then had some drinks at a bar on the Midlevels. The next day Clare and I woke up early and went shopping -- they have crazy malls over here! We went to a mall near our hotel then passed thru the Flower Market and then went to a mall near the harbor. I spent a nice amount of money but am very happy with what i got so its ok, I'm not one for a budget anyway, haha. That evening we went out and ran errands (laundry, bank, dinner) and then took the funicular up Victoria's Peak (tallest point in HK) and since it is like National Day or something like that here, there were fireworks in the harbor that we watched from the mountain. Then we had some wine at a little jazz bar thing. We bought some street vendor food just to say we tried it, and I got a really good dumpling thing and hten something that was white and dipped in batter that made a "squish" noise when you bit into it so needless to say i spit that out. We then just packed and got ready to come to the airport today.
More to come from Bangkok, hope you're all doing great.
